Enrico Baj's "Masks" are a modern interpretation of the primitive masks that every culture has created over the course of its evolution. These works were created by Baj in the 1990s and essentially consist of a piece of wood to which the artist attaches common objects and various trimmings. Baj also paints these objects with bright colors, reminiscent of primitive masks, where color has a ritual significance. Ultimately, these works take on anthropomorphic features, to which the artist gives whimsical names, as if they were the names of tribal characters.
