"Umbilical Cords" is the title Mario Raciti gives to this small work. Let's attempt an interpretation: in the central section, we find two masses of color that could be the seats of "reason" and "feeling." These are connected to two female figures, the full-bodied one in the lower right and the barely visible one in the upper left. Lines connect these figures to the two central masses, lines that we can imagine as umbilical cords connecting feeling and reason to the mother. In essence, each of us inherits from our mother the genes of reason and the heart.
