Emilio Isgrò: unerased Victory

Date : 31 Oct 2020

On the occasion of the return to Brescia of the bronze statue of Vittoria Alata, the monumental work of Emilio Isgrò called Incacellabile Vittoria has just opened at the FS stop of the Brescia metro. The statue, dated 1st century AD, was found in the nineteenth century in a cavity of the Capitolium of the city, and is a well-preserved bronze about two meters high with finishes of considerable value in the drapery and wings, finishes that have been highlighted by the cleaning and maintenance, lasting two years, operated at the Opificio delle Pietre Dure in Florence. Traces of gilding have been highlighted, suggesting who originally the statue was golden. Returning to Isgrò's work,it is a work that covers the entire north wall of the abovementioned stop, composed of 205 fiberglass panels and on which the first song of the Eneide is reported, engraved in the panels. The central erasure, red, reproduces the profile of the statue, while the other erasures are black. The work is of fascinating sumptuousness and is a tribute to the Roman origins of Brescia, once called Brixia. To taste the work in its entirety would require adequate lighting that we hope will be carried out as soon as possible.
