Giulio Paolini

Biography

Giulio Paolini est né à Gênes en 1940. Il a fréquenté l’Istituto Tecnico Industriale Statale où il a obtenu son diplôme en design graphique en 1959. En visitant des expositions et des musées, il a commencé sa carrière artistique dans le domaine de la peinture avec des solutions d’avant-garde qui l’ont rapidement conduit dans la veine de l’Art Conceptuel. Dans ce contexte, il analyse la relation entre l’artiste et l’œuvre et entre l’œuvre et le spectateur. Il s’intéresse à la photographie, qui entre souvent dans ses compositions, et à la scénographie théâtrale. Le critique Germano Celant l’implique dans ce groupe d’artistes innovants qui composeront le groupe Arte Povera, mais il s’en distingue par ses recherches conceptuelles. Sa carrière d’exposant se déroule en Italie et à l’étranger dans les galeries les plus importantes qui traitent de l’avant-garde artistique. Il y a de nombreuses expositions dans les espaces publics à partir de ses nombreuses participations à la Biennale de Venise, dont la première remonte à 1970.

Giulio Paolini - Art conceptuel

Conceptual Art sets out to overcome painting-painting in favor of idea-painting or conceptual painting. In other words, in Conceptual Art it is more important the gestation of the work and the programming of its execution. It is therefore an art thought, reasoned rather than felt. Execution becomes a fact of pure assembly of objects that form the work. Of course the visual aspect does not disappear completely as traces of painting are often found among the authors, but they are traces of painting put in a certain order that springs from the artist's thought.
